Nine of the Best Sustainable Appliances

Energy efficiency has always been important for homeowners, but it has arguably become one of the most important drivers in the last two years given increased energy costs. According to GfK, almost half of homeowners (49%) consider it an important criterion when buying major domestic appliances. There is also an increased awareness of climate change (2023 was confirmed as the warmest on record) and the environmental impact of purchases. For the last 150 years, Miele has endeavoured to create products that are designed and built to last. Ahead of Earth Day (22 April 2024), find below nine of Miele’s best eco-friendly appliances:

Miele Washing Machine: 10KG PowerWash WEK365

Miele washing machines are tested for the equivalent of 20 years' use and are built using high grade materials – 90% of which are recyclable. Testing includes running the cottons 95°C programme for 10,000 hours, the equivalent of five washes a week for 20 years. As well as opening and closing the door 60,000 times to replicate once a day for 64 years. Rated ‘A’ for energy, Miele’s latest10KG PowerWash WEK365 model makes it possible to for larger households to wash more, less often - helping to save time and energy in the process. All Miele washing machines feature intelligent automatic load recognition, which analyses what has been loaded into the drum and uses only the amount of water and electricity needed for excellently efficient cleaning and rinsing results. Thanks to the design of Miele’s special honeycomb drum, clothes will also last longer as garments glide across the drum on a thin film of water, ensuring no snagging for thorough but very gentle cleaning, even on handwash items.

Miele Heat Pump Tumble Dryer: 8KG TEF 765 WP EcoSpeed

Built using high grade materials {90% of which are recyclable} and designed to conserve energy and natural resources, Miele tumble dryers feature heat pump technology and intelligent features to reduce energy use while taking the very best care of fabrics. Rated ‘A+++’ for energy efficiency, this economical design comes with EcoSpeed for faster drying without losing energy efficiency as well as FragranceDos2 to swiftly switch between two favourite fragrances. EcoDry technology also keeps energy and run-time low thanks to the filter and maintenance-free heat exchanger, resulting in Miele heat pump dryers using 58% less energy and costing less than £2.50 per month, offering the highest energy rating and lifetime energy bill savings.

Miele Vacuum Cleaner: Complete C3 Allergy

Mains-powered Miele vacuum cleaners are tested for the equivalent of 20 years’ use. This includes checking the motors for 1,000 hours of use, simulating 40 miles worth of collisions and testing the floorheads for the equivalent of 600 miles of use on different surfaces. This cylinder cleaner is ideal for anyone with allergies, as its HEPA filter contributes to a cleaner environment, trapping 99.999% of dust and allergens.

Miele Dishwasher: G 7650 SCVi AutoDos

Miele dishwashers use as little as six litres of water per cycle, while reducing detergent consumption by up to 30% compared to standard models. They can also be safely connected to a hot water supply, which can reduce heating-up time and energy use by up to 40%. A fully integrated design, this recently updated A rated model comes with automatic dispensing with AutoDos and integrated PowerDisk. It also offers a QuickPowerWash for perfect results in less than an hour as well as WiFiConn@ct for remote operation.

Miele Oven: H 2766 BP Oven with Air Fry Function

Tested to last and built using high-grade, recyclable materials, Miele ovens offer precise temperature controls that are always within one degree of accuracy to ensure dishes are consistently cooked to perfection. Electronic temperature controls ensure the oven never overheats or uses excessive energy, while residual heat is also used to finish cooking, helping to reduce energy usage further. By continually improving its products, Miele's oven energy consumption has been reduced by 49% in the past 20 years. This recently launched A+ rated oven features a range of programmes including Miele’s new AirFry function for crispy results without the need of an additional countertop appliance, and its Eco Fan Heat, which reduces energy use by 30% when cooking on a single shelf. The Fan Plus and Fan Grill functions also allow for lower temperatures to be used when cooking to help save energy.

Miele Hob: KMDA 7272 FR-U Silence with Integrated Extraction

Miele induction hobs are a great choice for passionate cooks thanks to the precise temperature controllability, fast heat up times and automatic pan recognition that prevents wasted energy by only heating the area needed for the pan. This recently introduced model is the quietest induction hob from Miele, thanks to its Silence motor. It features Miele’s Con@ctivity function, so that it automatically regulates fan power to preserve energy.

Miele Extractor: DA 2578

Miele extractors prevent unnecessary energy consumption by automatically adjusting power when in use and switching off automatically after use. An Eco-Motor also reduces energy by 70% compared to conventional models. This A-rated 600 m3/h extractor features energy-efficient LED lighting and light-touch switches for easy use. For the ultimate user-friendly approach, it can also be operated via Miele’s Con@ctivity, reacting automatically to settings on the hob below.

Miele Coffee Machine: CM 6560 MilkPerfection

Miele coffee machines are tested to last and built using high grade, recyclable materials. With an on-trend pearl finish, this top-of-the-range model comes with eight programmable user profiles and 19 drink specialities, from a strong morning espresso, through to a lunchtime flat white and evening latte. WiFiConn@ct allows users to operate the machine via their smartphone or tablet as well as ordering coffee beans through the Miele shop.

Miele Fridge Freezer: KFN 4795 DD BlackSteel Discovery

Helping to reduce food waste, which harms the environment as well as the pocket, Miele's cooling products extend food’s fridge shelf life by up to five times for perfect freshness and flavour. The top-of-the-range freestanding fridge freezer is a 201cm tall model with Daily Fresh, DynaCool & DuplexCool, No Frost, SuperCool / SuperFreeze and a SoftClose door. It’s also ultra-quiet at just 37dB, ideal for open plan kitchens.

Miele’s design and development teams carefully consider the environmental impact at every stage of the products and services’ life cycles, resulting in appliances that have the least possible impact on the environment, with the goal to make them 100% carbon neutral. Miele washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers all save energy and water and are made with reduced plastic and a greater use of recycled materials for a sustainable solution both inside and out.

What’s more, Miele’s appliances are continuously tested for performance during their development phase for the equivalent of 20 years’ use with no compromise on performance or results. Appliances are designed to be easily repaired with spare parts readily available for at least 15 years, either online or via retail partners.

Thanks to Miele’s dedication to sustainability, we won the Sustainability Prize for the second time in October 2023. We have also committed to a number of projects to support research in energy efficiency, such as involvement in Denmark's first "Green City" as a standard equipment supplier, for which Miele supplied 15,000 domestic appliances for a project in a newly transformed quarter of Copenhagen. Miele also supports various beekeeping initiatives, which have a positive impact on the eco-system around the factories.
